  • The worst quality in history of broadcasting

    Neil Young on Facebook:

It's about sound quality. I don't need my music to be devalued by the worst quality in the history of broadcasting or any other form of distribution. I don't feel right allowing this to be sold to my fans. It's bad for my music.

Well, that's bullshit. Apparently Neil Young always had crystal clear radio and never sold his music on cassette tapes. And surely, money and his relationship with PonoMusic has nothing to do with this at all.

  • Tim Cook on Privacy

»I’m speaking to you from Silicon Valley, where some of the most prominent and successful companies have built their businesses by lulling their customers into complacency about their personal information,” said Cook. “They’re gobbling up everything they can learn about you and trying to monetize it. We think that’s wrong. And it’s not the kind of company that Apple wants to be.«

  • Android™ wins

From Verizon's 2015 Data Breach Investigations Report (DBiR):

Before we get too far, let's just get this out of the way now — Android™ wins. Not just wins, but Android wins so hard that most of the suspicious activity logged from iOS devices was just failed Android exploits. So while we’d love to compare and contrast iOS to Android, the data is forcibly limiting the discussion to the latter. Also, the malicious activity recorded on Android is centered on malware, and most of that malware is adnoyance-ware and similar resource-wasting infections.

  • So sad

Postcards from Space: GamerGate is killing video games.:

It will take years and years to repair the damage, and it is absolutely devastating to the serious study and application of the power of games to real problems.

  • Samsung extra creepy now.

Samsung is warning customers about discussing personal information in front of their smart television set.

The warning applies to TV viewers who control their Samsung Smart TV using its voice activation feature.

When the feature is active, such TV sets "listen" to what is said and may share what they hear with Samsung or third parties, it said.

  • iMore: Avoid MacKeeper

»I'd posit that if your affiliate marketing strategy is attracting lying douchebags and scum, then you're the problem as much as they are.«

I hate these ads and therefor the software. I assume there's a large enough group of switchers from Windows, who learned to be afraid (and probably rightly so), so the first things they install on a new Mac are anti virus scanners and crap like MacKeeper.

  • Positive

I'm positively surprised that in the German App Store there are only a few morons complaining about the price for eight fantastic new chapters in Monument Valley.

  • Alan Eustace sets new skydiving world record

Mr. Eustace was carried aloft without the aid of the sophisticated capsule used by Mr. Baumgartner or millions of dollars in sponsorship money. Instead, Mr. Eustace planned his jump in secrecy, working for almost three years with a small group of technologists skilled in spacesuit design, life-support systems, and parachute and balloon technology.

Way more likable than that chauvinistic guy from Austria.

  • iPhone 6

    iPhone 6

    John Gruber:

I’ve found myself reverting to a habit I formed back in 2007 with the original iPhone: slowly spinning it around in my hand, over and over, side over side, like one of those “worry stones” that were popular back in the 1990s. It just feels nice in your hand.

Did the same thing back then and I’m curious if the new larger iPhone allows me to do it with my tiny, delicate geek hands.

Videos like this make me switch over to iTunes and buy music. I knew and liked them before, but little things like these often tip the scales.

Somebody actually developed nearly exactly the timer I created a concept for: It’s called TimeBar and is wonderfully simple. Perfect.

  • From Alfred back to LaunchBar

Aleh Cherp from Macademic explains why he switched back from Alfred to LaunchBar. I had the exact same three reasons. Especially instant send and selecting music are too annoying/slow with Alfred if you’re used to LaunchBar’s speed.

I’m still tempted to try Alfred nearly every day, because the workflow community seems more active. Maybe I find a way to use both side by side without interference.

But … first I need Mavericks on my work machine.

  • Paradoxon

    Ach was.
